Wild Swimming
Cool off in freshwater dams under open African skies.
Experience
Thabaphaswa offers a rare, refreshing chance to swim in six natural, spring-fed dams — each with its own character. From wide, sun-drenched waters ideal for floating to more secluded spots shaded by indigenous trees, every dam offers a new way to reconnect with nature.
Hein’s Dam is the largest and most popular, home to our foefieslide and a favorite picnic spot. Others are quieter, great for a meditative dip or birdwatching from the water’s edge. No artificial filters, no pool pumps — just clean mountain runoff and the occasional visit from wildlife.
These swim spots are unmonitored, so use them responsibly and embrace the stillness of wild water. If that sounds a bit too wild for your liking, we also have man-made dams that offer a more controlled — but equally refreshing — dip.
